With a new school year already under way, Rangeview’s boys golf team and its coaches say they want to start with a bang.

Head coach, Merlin Johnson stated, “We have hopes of breaking records this season as we head into tournaments against some intense opponents.”

Practice began August 7th, a day before the school year started. Junior Tristan Somers, a varsity golfer at Rangeview also had some encouraging words for the team.

“The team wants to focus on precision and simply blocking out any and all distractions. We will need to be our best, especially if we are to face opponents like Aurora Central, Hinkley, and Gateway in our upcoming tournament,” Somers commented.

Varsity golfer and senior Levi Robinson has his own personal goal for this year.

“I really want to score better in all my games this year than I did last year,” Levi stated. “But I’m excited for this new season.”

A tournament took place Thursday of last week. As a whole, the team came in third place. But as for Levi, he scored an 81 overall, which is what he had hoped for.

Getting a score of 81 means Levi had one double bogey, seven bogies, and ten pars. Teammate and senior Keith Kutsuma was also impressed by Robinson’s performance.

“He carried the team and led us, even though we didn’t do as well as we had hoped,” Kutsuma  said.

The season has just begun, and the Rangeview golf team wants to do well this year. According to coach Johnson, the team has the needed young and experienced players that they hope will help them make a huge improvement this season.

On September 7, 2017 the team heads into its next tournament against nine other schools at Hyland Hills Golf Course.
