With the introduction of the spring season comes the girls lacrosse team arriving in full swing. The lady Raiders are taking some time to get back to the basics, come together as a team, and establish the theme of unity within their team atmosphere.

The new season has also given the returning girls lacrosse players a chance to prove themselves this season.

Senior and returning varsity goalie for the lacrosse team Kaitlyn Mearing said, “My biggest goal is for this team to become a powerhouse from quite literally the dust as we have a lot of new girls. Also, I really want all the girls to feel their place on that field and really own it giving it their all and playing their best.”

Aside from Mearing, the only other senior on the team is Kaylyn Kilmer, who has played on the team since her freshman year.

Kilmer expressed, “Despite us not winning every game, we play together as a team and we play hard.”

This has given the coach, Amanda Vincent, the chance to see what the younger students can accomplish on the team.

Junior Ashley Ortega said, “I would love to be a starter this year and show coach what I am capable of.”

The girls agreed that their biggest competitor is Overland High School, as the team plays very aggressively, which forces the ladies to exercise legal checks during the game.

Despite this, the ladies won 16-2 against Overland on Monday, April 8th.

Last year, the ladies did not place very high in the EMAC with a 1-17 overall record and a 0-6 league record. The ladies ranked 50 out of 51 in the 5A Colorado Class.

This year so far, the ladies have an overall 2-3 record for the year and a 0-1 league record, already surpassing the overall and league record from the season before.

The girls’ next game will be tonight, April 15th, against Horizon at 6pm at Rangeview.
