As winter break is drawing near, there are a number of movies that are heavily anticipated and music from current artists that have recently been trending.

Movies:

December is here and there are a number of movies that will be in theaters.

Based on the original Jumanji starring Robin Williams, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a spin-off movie starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and other celebrities.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is an upcoming movie that will be released on December 20th. The plot of this movie is that four high schoolers are sent into detention with each other and discover a video game that draws them into a jungle environment where they must not only play the game, but survive.

Junior Pharaoh Moss said, “I think the premise of the movie is really interesting and I hope it’s as good as the original Jumanji.”

Coco is an animated movie directed by Lee Unkrich who also directed popular animated films such as Finding Nemo, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, etc. Coco quickly became a popular movie, released on November 22nd.

The plot of Coco revolves around a young boy named Miguel who dreams of becoming an expert musician as he hopes to be like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. Miguel enters the Land of the Dead due to a delightful trickster named Héctor as the two embark on a journey to unlock Miguel’s family history.

Junior Lauren Graff said, “I haven’t been able to see Coco yet, but it looks cute and I want to be able to go during winter break.”

Downsizing is an upcoming movie that will be released on December 22nd. The plot of this movie is that humans have discovered how to shrink themselves to solve overpopulation. One man must learn to adapt to his new life when he decides to shrink in order to avoid his stressful life.

Senior Bryan Fierro said, “The concept of the movie is very weird, but the movie itself seems really interesting.”

Music:

In the past few weeks, there have been a number of artists that have released music that has been trending.

Camila Cabello is a Cuban-American singer and songwriter who was a member of the girl group, Fifth Harmony. Havana was released on September 8th and has been trending lately as #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

The single Havana by Camila Cabello is a song that talks about her love for her home country, Cuba. The single features rapper Young Thug and was originally released on August 3rd. The single has been rising on the Billboard charts as of lately (Picture provided by Genius).

Junior Bolu Folarin said, “Havana is definitely a slapper. I love Young Thug even though a lot of people have bad opinions about him and it’s definitely a song to sing in the shower.”

Rising on the Billboard charts as well is artist Post Malone. His single Rockstar that features rapper 21 Savage was released on September 15th, but has been gaining more hype as of lately (Picture provided by Genius).

A popular rock band that has released a number of songs is Imagine Dragons. These songs include Radioactive, Believer, Demons, etc. Thunder was released on April 27 from their Evolve album and has reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

Junior Jordan Alveranga said, “Thunder is a very upbeat song that can cheer anyone up, definitely one of my favorite songs this year.”

An artist that has made a name for himself recently is Post Malone having released a number of popular songs such as Congratulations, White Iverson, and Go Flex. Rockstar was released on September 15 and features 21 Savage on the track.

Freshman Thien Nguyen said, “It’s definitely an upbeat song that anyone can listen to and I hope he continues to release more songs.”

The movies and music listed above have either been released or will come out in the following weeks or months.
